Extreme Couponing for Doomsday Preppers

Couponing as we all know is a good way to save money, but what else is it good for? Well, one thing that you can do with couponing is prepared for the future. For instance, what would happen if you could no longer go to the grocery store with coupons to get what you need? What if store shelves were bare? You would obviously have problems if you weren’t prepared.

Using coupons to make a stockpile of products in case of that scenario or skyrocketing prices could save your way of life. The new show Doomsday Preppers is an extreme version of this I believe but what if there is some truth to it?

What if sudden OPEC cut off all oil to the United States? That would cause gas prices to go up considerably and if bad enough could make the prices on everyday items double or triple what they are now. So how does couponing help with any sort of long term doomsday planning?

Well, that’s simple. If you have a good supply of products on hand to take care of your needs for a couple of months then you would be less affected by any sort of issue that could lead to food and product shortages.

So What Should You Stock Up On

It’s best in a doomsday prepper sort of scenario to make sure you have enough food, water and misc products to see you through ideally 3 months. I’d recommend stocking up on items that have long shelf lives and using coupons to get them at the best prices.

Here is a list of non-food items that you can easily stockpile for an emergency:

Toilet Paper
Paper Towels
Detergent
Hand Soap
Shampoo
Body Wash

Having these on hand will help with hygiene in an emergency situation and you can almost always find good coupons to save money on items like these.

As far as food goes that’s a little more subjective, but you are looking for items that have a long shelf life and can be eaten cold or easily heated. Here is an example list of items that often have coupons that meet this need:

Soup
Stew
Crackers
Cereal
Pasta Noodles
Pasta Sauce
Drinks (Gatorade, Poweraid, etc)
Bottled Water

If you have a good supply of these items on hand you are sure to come out ahead of the average home that has a couple of days of supplies.
